Never hit the trails without Buster? The Bay Area's got plenty of dog-friendly hiking paths that'll set your best friend's tail wagging with delight. To kick-off our new dog-friendly section, we've highlighted five past favorites. This one's gone to the dogs!

Lady and the Trampas: Hike the East Bay's lesser-known Las Trampas Regional Wilderness to a remote ridge with incredible views of Mount Diablo, the Bay and silhouettes of San Francisco. It's well worth the hoof and woof to get there.

Sniff it Out: Hill 88 in the Marin Headlands is wild yet accessible, with a trail that climbs and curves to a sweeping vista of the Pacific horizon and beyond. Bow-wow!

Dog With the Wind: Smack between the Pacific and Silicon Valley, Windy Hill lives up to its name and then some. Bring a kite and stay awhile: The 360-degree views make it a nice place for some dog-gone good sunset viewing.

Paws for Art: Where can you and your best friend find world-class Bay views and eclectic art like an Andy Warhol-esque Mona Lisa painting on a rock canvas? Get to Albany Bulb, haute dogs!

Fog Dog: Head to San Francisco's wild side—Lands End. But don't stop there. Keep going to Baker Beach and Crissy Field to complete the best urban hike around, the Grand Walk. Then give the dog a bone.

Russian River Adventures

Graduation Day

Ready to graduate from inner tubes and metal canoes on your summer river trips? Russian River Adventures offers the best family-(and dog!) friendly boat for your float: Their signature SOAR inflatable canoes are so plush and cozy you'll feel like you're cruising in a Cadillac. The good folks at Russian River Adventures will set you up, and send you down a gloriously remote section of the Russian River most paddlers don't know about. Kick back for a few hours, coasting by vineyards, redwoods, birds and other wildlife on this easy, crowd-free river. Nose up to shore for a picnic; do your best Tarzan on the rope swing, and splash around in the pristine swimming holes. At the end of the trip, Russian River Adventures will be there to shuttle everyone back to the car—wet mutt included.

TIP: Russian River Adventures limits the number of people who can float down the river, so reserve your spot early—at least two weeks in advance—for a weekend trip.
