Go Fourth!

The Fourth of July is coming right up! No plans yet? Here are a few ways to enjoy the freedom of the great outdoors.

La Jolla Valley backpack

Beginner's Backpacking: A backpacking trip doesn't have to be epic. Go wild without going too far into the wild on a 2.4-mile (one-way) adventure to La Jolla Valley Hike-In Campground in Point Mugu State Park.

Two Thumbs SUP:
Malibu Surf Shack’s beginner-friendly stand-up paddleboarding tour is a splashing good time—cruising world-famous shorelines and taking in classic views.

Legg Up: When the heat's on, cool down with a mellow roll around LA's Legg Lake. This eastside oasis tucked in Whittier Narrows Recreation Area offers water, shade, and an opportunity to share the load on a pedal-powered quadracycle.

All the Wright Stuff: Get a double hit of famed American architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s creations on a 3-mile urban hike (and lunch stop!).

Grin and Bear It: Big Bear Lake, best known for winter skiing, hits its stride in the summertime as a high-altitude haven. The 7.5-mile (round-trip) journey to 8,200-foot Bertha Peak richly delivers the goods.

Fired Up: Tucked away on the northern edge of Surf City USA, Bolsa Chica State Beach has 80 fire pits ready for a s’mores roast! Load the sticks with marshmallows and join great horned owls with some hooting of your own.

Fireworks Perch: Hit it out of the park by watching the Dodger Stadium Fourth of July Fireworks show from afar. Tucked in the southeast corner of Griffith Park, Beacon Hill's 1,001-foot summit is a prime perch for your viewing pleasure.

Terranea Temptation

This summer, get away without having to go far! Terranea Resort is one of Southern California's most beautiful escapes—combining heavenly beach relaxation with outdoor adventures. Book your stay soon and get up to $200 in Resort Credit (limited time only) when booking one of their Summer Packages. The oceanfront hideaway—set on 102 acres of pristine open space at the tip of the Palos Verdes Peninsula—offers everything from poolside lounging (at one of three ocean-view pools!) and spa rejuvenation to quiet explorations and good times kayorkling (part kayaking, part snorkeling). Stay in a hotel guestroom or opt for one of the residential-style accommodations: Bungalows, Casitas and Villas are elegant yet functional with every modern convenience. Visit Pointe Discovery—a one-stop shop for experiencing all of Terranea’s land and sea adventures, including horseback riding in Rolling Hills and exploring secluded rocky beach coves. As the day winds down, enjoy cocktails while watching the sun set across the Pacific and choose from the resort's eight restaurants, cafes, lounges, or bars. Wrap up the evening with a s’mores roast and champagne toast at one of several fire pits or fireplaces. Here's to an escape that's not far away! Sweet Terranea dreams.

BONUS: Book your stay and receive up to $200 in Resort Credit (limited time only). Whether you're looking for a romantic retreat, a spa revival, a golf escape, a family adventure, or a dining extravaganza, Terranea Resort offers special packages and rates along with perfectly tailored itineraries to suit your wishes.
