We love Thanksgiving. Family. Friends. White meat and wishbones. Football on TV and a four-day weekend to fill with outdoor excursions. Here are a couple suggestions, with a slice of exciting news.

You asked. We labored into the early hours to build the official Weekend Sherpa website. Today we proudly present www.weekendsherpa.com. Check it out. You’ll find all of Weekend Sherpa’s past e-newsletters and topics, making it easy to search for specific activities, send destination ideas to friends, or just have fun looking for recreational inspiration. We’ll still be emailing you the weekly newsletter, and now you have a complementary site for exploring all the different places and activities that make Northern California one of the best playgrounds around. Thanks for your support. Let us know what you think here. We can’t wait for the weekend!

Today San Francisco’s Lands End Coastal Trail reopens after being closed for a little R&R (repairs and restoration). So collect your in-laws, relatives, or roommates for a scenic, casual hike that will shake your turkey coma loose. Start at the trailhead on Point Lobos Ave. near the Cliff House and stop at Eagle’s Point overlook near 32nd Ave. and El Camino Del Mar. Along the way you’ll take in rugged views the Marin Headlands, Mile Rock, and the crashing bay waves. Bird-watchers should be on the lookout for ospreys and hawks.

Don’t want to cook this Thanksgiving but still want to gobble? Follow the path past Lands End to the Beach Chalet. They’re hosting a $39-per-person prix fixe three-course dinner on Thanksgiving Day. The menu includes butternut squash soup and turkey with all the fixings. Reservations are required.

When counting your blessings this holiday remember you live in one of the most beautiful places on the planet. Show your love by helping cleanup your neighborhood park: just check the list on the San Francisco Parks Trust website. This weekend’s projects include: restoring the Stern Grove-area creek bed; working the Alemany Farm community garden (and taking home some of the harvest at the end of the day); weeding and pruning Glen Park, and much more. Bonus: volunteer to help undo the dog damage wreaked on Alamo Square. You won’t poop out, thanks to treats from Citizen Cake. More information and events.
