Spring It On

Mark your calendar: the next few weeks are packed with festivals and outings. Spring it on!

1. Blossom Buddies: In mid-April, the 2008 Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival in Japantown comes alive with taiko drumming, tea ceremonies, and other tasty traditions. But you don't have to wait to celebrate—at the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park, the fragrant pink and white cherry blossoms are out NOW! (April 12, 13, 19, 20). www.nccbf.org
2. Shaftenfreude: Spelunk 810 feet into a 1930s-era, silica sand–mine labyrinth, newly reopened in the East Bay's Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve. Discover what lies beneath… (Open-House Celebration: April 5–6, 12–4 p.m.; then tours every weekend at 12 p.m. and 3 p.m.). www.ebparks.org
3. Wine Within Reach: Use your personal wine passport and find thirteen different wineries hidden within East Bay city limits on the urban wine trail (April 5). www.eastbayvintners.com
4. Great American Drive-in: Join a guerilla movie-movement when the MobMov—the drive-in that drives in—stops at Treasure Island this month. Wheel in, tune up, and kick back; film TBA (April 12). www.mobmov.org
5. Wildflower Power: Step into a world with more color than a crayon box at the Sunol Wildflower Festival in the rolling East Bay hills. Hikes, Irish-Celtic bluegrass, and crafts unite! (April 12, 11 a.m.–4 p.m.). www.ebparks.org
6. Tasting Trek: Ramble through the 1,850-acre Kunde Estate on a tour of sustainable viticulture, then finish with premium wine-tasting and big views of the Sonoma Valley (April 12 and 26, May 10; dog-friendly). www.kunde.com
7. Moonlit Marsh: Take paddles into your own hands this Earth Day with a sunset canoe trip at the low-lying wetlands of Gallinas Creek. Be there when wildlife—including snowy egrets—comes alive at dusk (April 19). www.savesfbay.org
8. Pinot Peddlers: Work up a thirst with spectacular 15-, 25-, or 50-mile fun rides that range from piece-of-cake to you've-got-to-be-kidding at the Cycle for Sight fun ride in Napa. At the finish: wine, live music, and good times (April 26). www.cycle4sight.com
9. Micro-Brewhaha: Make new friends and speak the local lingo ("bahlest steinber hornin'!") while tasting from over 55 micro-breweries under the Mendocino County sun at the Boonville Beer Festival (May 10). www.avbc.com
10. Paddle Among Giants: Get up close and personal with nature's largest creatures along the Santa Cruz shoreline, all from the comfort of your kayak. Springtime brings gray whales close to the coast…and to your water-resistant camera (all weekends now through May 4). www.kayaksantacruz.com
