Just Add Water

It’s summer, and liquid refreshment is calling. At Francis Ford Coppola Winery, it comes in the form of tasty wine and a 3,600-square-foot swimming pool. Spread across acres of latticed land in Sonoma’s Alexander Valley, this resort-style winery offers pure fun in the sun. Make a day of it by spreading your blanket across a chaise lawn chair and relaxing in the mellow wine country surroundings. Order a Riesling and a Neapolitan-style Pizza Sofia—loaded with fresh arugula—from the pool café. Cool down with a dip in the water or take a turn on the bocce courts. Throughout the summer, live outdoor music jams at the Pavilion overlooking the pool (notice the similarities to the bandshell from The Godfather: Park II?). Indoors you’ll find an impressive collection of authentic film memorabilia including Don Corleone’s desk from The Godfather and the original automobile from Tucker: The Man and His Dream. And, of course, plenty of wine to tempt your taste buds.

Cap off the day with family-style traditional Italian cuisine at the winery’s restaurant, RUSTIC. Ingredients are sourced from the organic herb and produce garden, and the large outdoor terrace overlooks Alexander Valley. Reservations recommended.
