Organic Buzz
Many wineries push the organic envelope, but the oldest winery in Mendocino is also striving to be the "greenest" in the country. Not only does Parducci practice organic and biodynamic farming, it's the first carbon-neutral winery in the U.S., using 100% renewable power and recycling waste water to an onsite wetland. Swing by Parducci's cozy tasting room (pictured) just a few miles north of Ukiah. The décor exudes warmth, literally, with an old-school stone fireplace. Pair the True Grit petit sirah with a seat near the heat. More of a beer person? Just say the magic words: Ukiah Brewing Company & Restaurant, the first organic brewpub in the country! Grab a chair at the long bar or hunker down in a booth. From the potatoes for the French fries to the hops for the beer, the entire operation is organic. Even the fish for fish & chips is wild-caught and tastes better when paired with The Comptche Logger, a smooth "steam beer"... that tastes even better when combined with the pub's live music. We'll drink to that!
