SUP Malibu Surf Shack
Standing on rolling waves is like feeling the ocean breathe…its great lungs lift you up and down, higher and lower. Discover the art of stand-up paddleboarding via Malibu Surf Shack’s introductory two-hour tour on the open sea. Starting next to the Malibu pier, an experienced guide will dispense instructions on the basics before leading you on a 2-mile out-and-back cruise of this world-famous shoreline. Heading west, you'll pass over rich kelp beds that make popular feeding grounds for seals and sea lions; you may be lucky enough to spot one feasting on a fresh catch. On your right, the Santa Monica Mountains rise behind Malibu Lagoon and Malibu Colony’s community of multimillion dollar homes. Ahead, the bluffs of Point Dume jut into the sea. The relaxing voyage belies the workout you’ll get from balancing on the board and adjusting your weight to the waves and wind. And if you fall? Meh! Wetsuits rented for a modest fee keep you toasty and buoyant. The return journey brings views of the city of Santa Monica, the Palos Verdes peninsula and, possibly, a school of dolphins or even whales (which have been spotted in the area recently). Nouveau SUP.

BONUS: Afterward, grab lunch at Jimmy's Malibu Boardwalk Café on the Malibu pier across from the Surf Shack. The outdoor restaurant features a simple menu of sandwiches and burgers. They’re also BYOB with no corkage fee (until they get their liquor license—call to confirm); so bring along some beers and keep enjoying those Malibu views.
