Sea the Sights
Are you ready to embrace your inner tourist? Grab a San Francisco fleece, strap a camera around your neck, and make your way to Fisherman's Wharf for a sunset cruise on the Bay. What may seem like a touristy thing to do is actually quite a bit of fun, if you go into it with the right mindset. The Red and White Fleet's largest vessel—The Royal Prince—plays host for a two-hour journey with live guitar music, buffet appetizers, and a complimentary cocktail or soda. It's a perfect chance to strike up a conversation with your sea-mates or just sit quietly admiring views. Get up close to Alcatraz and learn interesting trivia about its history. Coast past the campers on Angel Island, the multimillion dollar mansions of Belvedere, and the houseboats of Sausalito. As the sun dips be sure to get your photo while passing under the Golden Gate Bridge. At $50 a person, this cruise isn't exactly cheap; but if you need a reminder of how lucky you are to live in this part of the world, this is a good ticket. Just don't start calling it Frisco.
TIP: The Red and White Fleet is also hosting a special twilight cruise on Pride Weekend.
The California Sunset Cruise sails from Pier 43 1/2 in Fisherman's Wharf. Summer cruises run through Sept. 6, departing at 7 p.m. No sunset cruise on July 4. No dogs.
UPDATE: In last week's issue we wrote about hiking around Phoenix Lake. We just heard from the good folks at MMWD who informed us that many trails, including the ones we recommended, will be closed from June 14 until the fall to replace a water transmission line. It's worth the wait!
