Supermoon Viewing at Griffith Observatory

This Sunday evening (September 27) a total lunar eclipse will coincide with a "Supermoon." Why is this a big deal? Well, it hasn't happened in 32 years and won't happen again for another 18! And Griffith Observatory is celebrating with a fantastic (free) viewing of the total lunar eclipse. The event is going to be super(moon) popular, so arrive early, and from the observatory parking lot head out on a 3-mile out-and-back hike on the Hollyridge Trail (where you'll get glimpses of the Hollywood Sign). Then stick around for the festivities, starting at 6:30 p.m. There'll be live music from Steinway & Sons and the Los Angeles Philharmonic (as part of its Immortal Beethoven program), a live broadcast of the eclipse from the observatory's famed Zeiss telescope, and lawn-side viewing (bring binoculars if you've got some, but there will also be lawn telescopes on-site).

Dog friendly, except inside the building.
