There's no blacktie required for attending your next art instalation opening: this is purely a Bowtie affair! The Bowtie Project is an 18-acre park in Glendale filled with art instalations that portray the unique character of Los Angeles. Named for its shape, Bowtie has natural beauty juxtaposed with concrete and industrial design. The large paved lot of the Bowtie butts up against the LA River and is dappled with Mexican fan palms, fragrant sage, and California buckwheat. True to tech-savvy times, visitors can take a self-guided 1-mile walking tour and discover more about the area's storied history using their phone to call in. Be sure to check out The Unfinished (pictured) an artistic excavation by local artist Michael Parker. It's a 137-foot to-scale replica of the ancient Egyptian archeological site known as “The Unfinished Obelisk.” And don’t miss the utterly spectacular and colorful fir pit Con/Safos, a revolving art installation begun by artist Rafa Esparza. Or simply walk down to the river for an easygoing stroll.

The Bowtie Project is near the junction of I-5 and the Glendale Freeway (directions). Make sure to bring water; there are no water fountains on-site.
