Echo Friendly

Clinton Street Stairway Echo Park

Music, art, hills, and hipsters. Get in on the scene—and the scenery—with an urban hike in Echo Park. This casual stroll features the Clinton Street Stairway, a stately mural-cloaked set of concrete steps leading you from Glendale Avenue up to Belmont Avenue. The din of traffic below dissipates and you're rewarded with pretty views of Echo Park Lake from above. A sharp right from here has you following a narrow walking path that pops out to a rolling residential neighborhood filled with steep, quiet streets. Explore these parts if you wish, or just flip it at Kent Street Stairs (located where you popped out from the walking path). You can always take a lap around Echo Park Lake to check out the dozens of bird species (or lounging hipsters) inhabiting the place.

BONUS: Sage Organic, an all-vegan café with a menu that will leave you satisfied without having to compromise any New Year's resolutions, is on Sunset, just a block above the lake.

Clinton Street Stairway starts at Glendale Blvd. between Bellevue Ave. and Santa Ynez St. (about a block north of the Bellevue Stairway). The Kent Street Steps are a few blocks north. Street parking available on Glendale Blvd. Dog-friendly!
