Sweet Sierra Dreams

Fall Getaway to Sequoia National Park

No offense to other destinations in the Sierra Nevada, but Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are the perfect fall trifecta. (1) It’s the “Land of the Giants,” home to the largest trees on earth—giant sequoias. (2) The tallest peak in the lower 48—Mount Whitney—is found here. (3)

It’s where you’ll find the deepest canyon in the U.S.—Kings Canyon. Take that, Grand Canyon! And with the fall season comes cooler temperatures, and incredible fall colors! Hike beneath the giant sequoias on the Congress Trail near the world-famous General Sherman Tree. Explore Kings Canyon, kicking up gritty Sierra sand along the Kings River.

Where to sleep? Take your pick. The Wuksachi Lodge is Sequoia’s signature hotel—a striking stone-and-cedar lodge in the heart of the park at 7,200 feet elevation. The John Muir Lodge is the pinnacle of Kings Canyon lodging, a stately stone-and-timber retreat within minutes of the historic Grant Grove giant sequoias. There’s also Grant Grove Cabins, walking distance to the iconic General Grant Tree. Sweet Sierra dreams!
