Locals' Feature: Jim Litchfield, Owner of Reno Fly Shop

Locals' Feature: Jim Litchfield, Owner of Reno Fly Shop

If there's a pristine river, you're likely to find Jim Litchfield there. As the owner of Reno Fly Shop, Nevada's premier fly fishing outfitter and shop, Jim's passion for rivers knows no bounds: he's fished in places near and far, including Alaska, Bolivia, and Christmas Island.

But home is beautiful Reno, where he has been running Reno Fly Shop and leading tailored river float and fly fishing adventures (including beginner-friendly options) for over a decade.

Originally from Las Vegas, Jim grew up spending a lot of time in the eastern Sierra, around June Lake, California. He moved to Reno in 1986, studying for a BS in Geology and an MS in Hydrology, then stayed to work, play, and raise a family.

Reno Truckee River

His favorite river in Nevada and California? The Truckee River, for its diverse landscape and fishery, plus the amazing whitewater.

When he's not at Reno Fly Shop, or leading guided river adventures around Nevada, California, and even Alaska, Jim enjoys photography, metal work, and hiking.

He's also got some must-stop eatery recommendations for your next visit to Reno Tahoe: "Beaujolais Bistro is an amazing fine-dining experience in a relaxed atmosphere near the Truckee River. Beloved Bakery simply cannot be missed for bread and pastries. The Shore in the Reno Renaissance is very good for an après drink and snack."
