Walk Leghorns Park Brunch at Two Niner Diner

Hungry? Head to the airport! No, seriously. Petaluma Municipal Airport's popular Two Niner Diner is a breakfast institution. Hike to it on a 4.8-mile (round-trip) rolling-green-hills ramble. Grab your best wing-mates for a hike-in brunch at this tiny country airport, where a soft landing means melt-in-your mouth housemade blueberry coffee cake, or a signature Country Pilot breakfast (eggs, potatoes, gravy-smothered biscuits!). Take off from Petaluma's Leghorns Park and head east on the paved trail, passing homes reminiscent of New England for the first half-mile. Follow the path to the right into the grassy pasture, where a lone tree sits in the distance. Footbridges take you over trickling streams, and fragrant eucalyptus trees dot the landscape. Keep an eye out for blue herons. There's birdsong, and maybe the sound of fans cheering their team at Prince Park's softball fields. After about 2 miles, cross the road into the Petaluma Municipal Airport, and its tarmac treasure: Two Niner Diner, a breakfast favorite for 23 years and counting. The airfield eatery with the vintage aircraft décor and a checkered floor also has an outdoor patio overlooking small planes on the tarmac and Petaluma's pastoral landscape. Choose from a variety of breakfast and lunch options including eggs benedict, stacked club sandwiches, and milkshakes. Set yourself on auto-pilot, watching small planes lifting off and landing.

Leghorns Park is located at 690 Sonoma Mountain Pkwy., next to SRJC Petaluma Campus. Parking is available at the SRJC for $4, or at the neighboring shopping center. Two Niner Diner is located at 561 Sky Ranch Dr., Ste. A in Petaluma. The trail and Two Niner Diner's patio are dog-friendly!
