Muir Woods Night Tour
See Muir Woods at Night on a Guided Walk
Thousands of people flock to Muir Woods every year, yet only a few see it at night, when this beloved park is experienced in a whole new light. The Muir Woods Night Tour happens on the last Friday of every month through October. It's popular, so be ready to book a spot when registration opens at 8 a.m. two weeks before each tour date. The next tours in 2026 happen on June 26, followed by July 31, and August 28. There is no cost for the guided tour; however, you'll still need to pay the park entrance fee and parking reservation fee if you're driving.
Relish a ranger-led walk through the redwood forest and into groves, with plenty of stops to take in the scenery and listen to the sounds of wildlife as darkness falls. You might hear (or see) the endangered Northern Spotted Owl (native to the area) or the more common (and controversial) Barred Owl (not native to the area). Roam under 200-foot-tall coast redwoods as twilight turns into moonlight and the Redwood Creek can be a soothing soundtrack.
We can’t guarantee they’re still doing this, but it’s worth asking your guide if you can cap off the evening with a “silent hike”: a solo stroll back to the trailhead, lit by your headlamp (or the moonlight). Muirly magnificent.
